Presentation of the speakers

Antonio Puntello

Head of Sustainability,
Timex Group

For the last 10 years he has been involved in the definition and implementation of various sustainability strategies and since November 2022 he is Head of Sustainability for the Timex Group, developing a sustainability strategy for a 170 year old watch company.

He studied Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano and, after graduating, worked for more than 20 years in the watch industry for major companies in various roles: from product development to operations and supply chain.

He graduated from the Watchmaking School of Paris in 1981 and spent the first ten years of his professional life restorating antique clocks, pocket watches and wristwatches.

Independent since 1994, his focus at this time was designing and making various timepieces for famous manufactures.
Starting 1998, he also dreamt up and developed his own collection. His creations are considered as instigators of a new trend in watchmaking. He makes atypical timepieces in a stunningly traditional manner, using his unique style, his own technical patents and trademarked designs.
His first model, The Antiqua Perpetual Calendar, was immediately regarded as a « relic of the future », thus asserting his creativity and opening him the doors to the AHCI.

Since 1998, 20 different wristwatch models were created by him. Nevertheless, the production remains confidential due to the high level of craftsmanship, as less than 500 watches bearing Vianney Halter’s signature have been produced. His contribution to the horological landscape has won him eight awards.

Beat studied physics at the University of Bern and realized 1996 his PhD at the Institute of Applied Physics in the field of diode pumped solid state lasers.

From 1997 to 2002 he joined the company Numerical Modelling and since 2000 he is also at the Bern University of Applied Sciences BUAS where he lectures physics and applied laser technology. There he built up the laboratory for laser micro machining and laser surface engineering and became full professor in 2005. His main research topic, where he published more than 55 papers, is laser micromachining with ultra-short pulses and its industrial application. He is founder member of the national thematic network NTN swissphotonics, which he headed from 2008 – 2011 as managing director. He was expert for the founding agency innosuisse (2011-2022) and chair of the LASE symposium at Photonics West (2018-2021).
