FEMTOprint event recap

By 1 novembre 2024Events

On last October 25th, the Microtech Booster hosted an exceptional matchmaking event at FEMTOprint‘s new facility in Agno, Ticino.

Focused on the transformative impact of microtechnology in the watchmaking industry, this gathering brought together key players from the industry to foster collaboration and explore new opportunities in this area of excellence.

A Rich and Diverse Program

The event began with a presentation by Antonio Puntello from ATIO, part of Timex Group, focusing on sustainability challenges in watchmaking.
Mr. Puntello explored initiatives aimed at reducing environmental impact through circular practices and optimizing energy, water, and resource consumption. He emphasized the importance of life cycle assessments (LCA) in achieving measurable, sustainable impact.

Next, visionary watchmaker Vianney Halter captivated the audience with a deeply personal presentation that evoked admiration and respect.
Vianney Halter shared his unique journey and the influences that shaped his creations, especially his iconic Deep Space Tourbillon, which attendees had the rare opportunity to hold. It was a profound immersion into the heart of watchmaking creativity.

The event continued with technical explorations led by Beat Neuenschwander from the Bern University of Applied Sciences – BFH, who discussed laser micromachining with sub-100 fs pulses.
Beat Neuenschwander highlighted how this technology can enhance the machining of materials like steel, glass, and silicon, achieving optimal surface quality.

Following this, Mirko Zago of Argor Aljba showcased advancements in DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coatings. Specializing in technologies such as Dialong® and Dropless®, Argor Aljba develops high-performance coatings that meet both functional and aesthetic needs in watchmaking. Their durable, multi-layered solutions are ideal for high-precision watch components.

Finally, Giulia Bottarini of FEMTOprint highlighted groundbreaking innovations in 3D glass microfabrication.
FEMTOprint creates ultra-precise glass components for skeletonized dials and balance bridges, incorporating luminous effects with Super-LumiNova. Using advanced laser engraving technology, FEMTOprint reduces assembly complexity and enhances component quality, positioning itself as a valued partner for innovative watchmakers.

Facility Tour and Future Perspectives

The event concluded with a tour of FEMTOprint’s new, state-of-the-art facility, where cutting-edge equipment is set within an environment optimized for both innovation and industrialization.

This gathering strengthened Microtech Booster’s network and laid the groundwork for promising collaborations in microtechnology. Our gratitude goes to all who made this inspiring event possible.
